Sketchbook Finished for 2012 World Tour

Horrah, my sketchbook is finished and ready to send to the New York in preparation for travelling around America, before it wings its way back here for the Melbourne Exhibition.

If you would like to know more about the sketchbook project heres the link:
http://www.arthousecoop.com/projects/sketchbookproject2012.

The Process:
I have taken out all the original paper from the sketchbook. It has been replaced with pastel paper, which I found worked better when using watercolours/paint/collage etc.
For this book I decided to do a few larger pictures instead of a lot of smaller ones, so designed it so the pages could be folded out.
I have used a variety of styles and mediums in this sketchbook as I have used it as a chance to play.

'TIME TRAVELLER' COVER: Pen and ink

TIMES FLIES: (3 pages) Acrylic, permanent marker, pen, tissue paper, collage

MEMORIES OF TIME WELL TRAVELLED: (5 pages) Pen, ink, watercolour
TIME KEEPS ON TICKING.... : (4 pages) Pen, permanent marker, acrylic, collage

I loved my cover image so much I have converted it into a t shirt design.
Styles available: mens, women and hoodies in a variety of colours.

Latest Work

I created this piece using recycled and found materials. I added my own twist with a pottery hand and birds eggs I made. The combination of materials and having to get up close, to look right in and see everything, makes it a nice little work.

First Guitar Completed

I am currently working on a series of works using old guitars, skateboards and anything else that feels suitable at the time. They are being turned into art pieces with paint, collage, pottery, wire and a whole lot more.
This is the very first completed piece with more on the way.

The Sketchbook Project 2012

I have finally started working on my Sketchbook for the Sketchbook Project 2012. I am very excited as this time around the books are not just touring around the USA but are also making their way to Melbourne. I am anticipating a fair few hours spent looking at many books.

My theme is 'Time traveller'. I have decided for this work to focus on the time we travel on this earth. I have taken all the pages out of the book and sewn my own in so I could do the picture on one whole page that folds out. I still need to do the backs of the pages and the cover.

More Babushkas

Yes I love doing Babushka inspired illustrations. I am currently working on a commission for a childrens library, and this work is from one of the sketches I put foward. It wasn't the image chosen but I loved it so much I did it anyway.
Keep an eye out for the actual commission painting... will pop it up once I have handed it over.

Pottery

I am a happy girl as I went back to pottery today. I haven't been for around 7 months so I have been hanging out to get my hands dirty.
I am working on a mixed medium series which incorporates clay, musical instruments and more.

Here is the bird I started today....
I still have to make the other wings and then add texture to all the feathers.
The legs and claws will be made from wire.

This time...

School Holidays: art/craft with the kids

I love the winter school holidays. The cold weather gives us a great excuse to laze around the house and do arty stuff.  This holidays Willow and I worked on her first claymation movie. We had issues with a seriously tempermental camera, so the movie is a bit jumpy, but apart from that it's a pretty cool first attempt. Willow made the characters, the story and made up a piece of music for it - which she plays. So here it is ...the World Premiere of "Trick or Treat"...

video

Willow and Shelton also did some crafty things including painting their own mugs and making sock puppets. Shelton also made some great plastercine characters while Willow worked on her movie.

MISSION COMPLETION

Good things take time and I am happy to say that my painting is finally completed. (Well probably finally completed - still not sure about the hair.) It is as yet 'untitled' but I have a few ideas.
I hope you have enjoyed the opportunity to see a painting in progress and see the path it takes to the finishing line.

DRAWING DAY 2011 - my kids art

The kids couldn't let me have all the fun today. Here are their beautiful creations...

WORLD DRAWING DAY ARTWORK

Well World Drawing Day is almost over and I have finished my creation. After 6 solid hours of doing a 900x600mm drawing with a 4mm and a 7mm pen my poor wrist is killing me, but it was well worth the effort.
This drawing is one I have been wanting to work on for months and haven't found the time. It was inspired by the song 'Tree Hugger' (by Kimya Dawson and Antsy Pants -  from the Juno soundtrack).

WORLD DRAWING DAY 2011

Hi everyone

World Drawing Day is on Saturday 4th June.

"Can't draw"- it doesn't matter, just find a pen, the kids crayons, your lipstick, anything goes, just have a play and remember how much fun it was to draw when you were a child.
If you already draw then try a completely different style, or start that project you have been putting off because something else always seems to come up.
Get the kids involved or get a few friends around and have fun with it.
For those feeling brave then you can upload your work to their website and show the world your wonderful creation(s). It could possibly even make it into a book the organisers are producing.

I am planning to set my kids up with some big sheets of paper and a variety of supplies so they can do some mixed medium drawings. As for myself, I plan to do a work I have been putting off for ages as it is so completely different to anything I have ever done. I can't wait ;-)
